ABOUT YORK
Founded in 1634, York was one of the original counties in the Colony of Virginia, making it one of the oldest counties in the United States. The county is on the York River and is bordered by Williamsburg, Newport News and James City County. Yorktown is one of the three points in the Historic Triangle of Colonial Virginia, making it one of the world's top tourist attractions.  Yorktown is also the location of the American Revolution's victory against Great Britain with the surrender of General Lord Cornwallis.  Currently, the county is home to many important U.S. military stations and has miles of waterfront residential property and recreational areas.

ATTRACTIONS
In York County are theme parks like Busch Gardens Europe and Water Country USA. Other notable area attractions are Presidents Park, the Yorktown Riverfront area, the Yorktown Battlefield Visitor Center, and the Yorktown Victory Center. The Colonial Historical Park is a National Protected Area located on the Hampton Roads. The park includes the scenic and commercial-free 23-mile Colonial Parkway, which links the three points of the Historic Triangle.

EDUCATION
Public schools in the county are operated by the York County School Division. There are a total of 21 schools providing education for students from kindergarten through grade 12. Of the 21 schools, there are 3 alternative schools as well as several magnet programs for students who display above average ability and potential in certain areas. The grading scale for the district is more strict than most with the following breakdown: A (92-100%), B (84-91%), C (75-83%), D (67-74%) and F (below 66%).  There are also five private grade schools in the county from pre-kindergarten through grade 12.
